Welcome to Invercassley Cottage

A Scottish Highland Hideaway

Birds and Wildlife

This area of Sutherland has a wealth of birds and wildlife around every corner, in many cases no special equipment is needed to see them. This is due in part to the virtually unspoilt nature of much of the countryside and the low level of human habitation, and in part to the unique climate enjoyed by Scotland - northerly, yet made more temperate by the effects of the Gulf Stream.

Remember to keep your eyes open and to look all around. Below we have listed the sightings made by ourselves and other visitors to the cottage. Things seen from the cottage have all been viewed from the window of the sunlounge, either in the garden or in the floodplain in front of the cottage. Wildlife in the area tends to be fairly local to the cottage with the furthest sighting on the list no more than an hour and a half drive from the cottage. Exact locations of the sightings can be found in the visitor guide at the cottage.
