Guided Wildlife Trips
We are delighted to offer you a choice of wildlife watching trips during your stay. From an early morning or evening land rover safari trip to a full day tour of this area of the Scottish Highlands with an experience guide, we can help you experience some of the best view of the birds and wildlife that live there. Take a look at our gallery page on our website to see what you might see on your trip. High quality binoculars and telescopes are provided for guests use.
Wildlife trips can be booked in advance or during your stay and are subject to availability, weather conditions and a minimum of 2 guests. We are fully insured, have liability insurance and are trained in first aid.
Morning or Early evening landrover safari
A 2-2.5 hour guided trip in long-wheel based landrover safari around the local area. Morning safari’s will mean an early start, but we will have you back in time for breakfast. Evening safari’s will start late afternoon and will finish in time for us to drop you off at the local pub for an evening meal.
The species we will hope to see will include (depending on time of year): Golden Eagle, Osprey, Black Grouse, Merlin, Buzzard, Hen Harrier, Dipper, Curlew, Stonechat, Red and Sika Deer, Salmon, Otter and many others.
Season Highlights include :
April/ May: Black Grouse
May/June/July/August: Nesting Ospreys
July/August/September: Salmon leaping the waterfalls
October : Red & Sika deer rut
Cost : £25 per person or £40 per couple.
Full day wildlife tour
A full day tour in a long wheeled based land rover around the local glens and surrounding areas. There may be some short easy walks included. Tours will start after breakfast and will include breaks for tea & coffee and a picnic lunch of local and home-made produce.
This tour will cover various habitats such as:
Open moorland and the chance to watch Merlin, Hen Harrier, Black Grouse, and Red and Sika deer, and Red Kite, buzzards and kestrel are seen overhead. Golden and White-Tailed Eagles are also seen at certain times of the year. Plentiful small bird species such as stonechats, wagtails and
Rivers and local waterfalls for views of otters, wading birds, dippers, visiting migrant species and salmon leaping the waterfalls.
Woodlands to search for resident Red Squirrels and Scottish Crossbills.
Inland Lochs to watch Osprey fishing.
This trip is especially good for photographers, not only for the resident wildlife, but also the stunning landscape views throughout the day.
